OUR CORE BELIEFS

we believe in the power of sustainable innovation

From source to store, The Ocean Union believes in the power of sustainable innovation to modernise, improve upon and ultimately revolutionise the seafood industry.

Only by working with local fishermen to safeguard the natural world can we sustainably source premium seafood products, creating healthier oceans, stronger communities and better livelihoods in the process. This holistic approach is the only way to create fundamental systemic change for generations to come.

THE OCEAN UNION

Improving governance at our source communities.

From overfishing to climate change, coastal communities face significant challenges. These complex problems affect everyone on the supply chain, from the local fishermen to the international consumer.

We work with our local communities through education and economic initiatives to improve sustainability and governance to create a secure future for all.

FISHERY IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS (FIP’s)

All of our plants are proud members of the Indonesian Fishery Improvement Projects and the International Pole and Line Foundation (IPNLF).

By collaborating with these foundations, we work to reduce the industry’s environmental strain through prioritizing actions that rehabilitate and strengthen the fishery. Through our participation in IPNLF, we exclusively use ‘one-by-one’ fishing, the most sustainable and traditional fishing method.

our people

Meet the seafood experts

Meet the seafood experts

Our team is an unrivalled combination of sustainability experts and highly skilled, artisan fishermen. They’re the backbone of everything we do and we’re grateful to have them. Hear their stories, see their faces and find out more about who they are.

our process

We operate on two fronts, seafood and sustainability.

First, our fisheries.
From Sri Lanka to Sumatra we operate (need a number) artisanal fisheries including pole-and-line and handline fishing.

Second, our sustainability measures.
We help local coastal communities transform their livelihoods to become more financially secure, informed and wholly sustainable. We have a thorough process of research and information gathering, education, funding and community organizing to help create a mutually beneficial relationship between the local community and the environment.

We operate on two fronts, seafood and sustainability.

First, our fisheries. From Sri Lanka to Sumatra we operate (need a number) artisanal fisheries including pole-and-line and handline fishing. By combining the experience and skill of our fishermen with state-of-the-art cleaning, freezing and storing technology, our process ensures the highest quality of sustainable seafood. We believe that the ocean’s future lies at the nexus of innovative technologies and artisanal fishing.

We work closely with select Indonesian fishing communities to provide training on sustainable fishing practices, marine conservation, and waste management. By equipping these communities with knowledge and resources, The Ocean Union is helping to create a more sustainable fishing industry and protect Indonesia’s rich marine ecosystem.

The communities we work with are using selective fishing gear, avoiding overfishing, and participating in initiatives to reduce plastic waste and ocean pollution. By adopting sustainable practices, these communities are not only preserving their way of life but also ensuring a healthier ocean for generations to come.
